Our 3 day wine adventure is our first forage into Spain’s largest wine producing area – the DO of Castilla-La Mancha, accounting for roughly a third of the country’s total output, producing around 25 millions of hectolitres of wine annually- that’s equivalent to 3,333,333,333 bottles! 

After a comfort break, we arrive at our first Bodega near Albacete. Established in 1927, it is now run by the third generation of two winemaking lineages. We continue to Villarrobledo, the world center for Tinajas—massive clay jars used for fermentation for over 400 years. Here, we enjoy a Bocadillo lunch followed by a visit to the Tinaja Museum to learn the history of these handmade vessels.

Day two begins at the local Castle. Built in 1456 by the Marquis of Villena, it features a unique star-shaped plan and Gothic-Mudéjar architecture, beautifully restored by Empress Eugénie of France. Next, we visit a family-owned winery spanning 130 hectares of “Don Quixote” landscapes. They blend traditional grapes like Tempranillo with international varieties to produce award-winning wines. Following lunch, we head northeast to a boutique Bodega specializing in high-altitude, single-varietal wines like Petit Verdot and Gewürztraminer, winners of the Great Golden Bacchus.

On our final day, we visit a family estate in Villanueva de la Jara. Now managed by the third-generation, they use modern technology and old vines to craft expressive wines like “La Casilla de Adrián.” We conclude with a traditional three-course Menu del Dia lunch. Returning home at approximately 17:15, with your new wine supplies ready for a relaxing evening.
