The 22nd International Day of the Pork fiesta will take place in La Mata on Sunday the 21st January 2024. The fiesta, known in Spanish as the Dia Internacional del Cerdo is held in honour of San Anton, the patron saint of animals.
Several barbecues will be installed in the Plaza de Encarnacion Puchol, opposite the church in La Mata. From 12:00 onwards you can queue to receive your cooked pork chops, a slice of bread, stick of celery and a drink. All of this is free and is handed out on a first come, first served basis until it is all gone! This year there will be 500kg of pork, 150kg of bread, 100 kg of celery, 150 litres of wine. A number of Jamons will be raffled to raise money for next years Day of the Pork Fiesta.
