The traditional White Palm Market will take place in Elche on the 2nnd and 23rd March 2024 in preparation for Palm Sunday. Elche is famous for it’s palm trees which provide a large percentage of the special blanched or white palms that are used throughout the world on Palm Sunday. This year, due to covid, there are no Easter Processions, but the White Palm Market will still take place where you can watch the craft people at work and buy their beautiful palm products.
In the many palm groves in and around Elche, the palm leaves spend most of the year wrapped in black plastic to starve them of sunlight and turn them from green to a golden colour for use in the parades. The palm leaves can be used just as they are cut, or crafted into intricate designs.
