Jacarilla is a pretty inland village with a difference as it is dominated by an impressive country palace. The palace was built in the 1920s by the Marques de Fontabla and is said to have 28 rooms. Although the palace is currently closed (there are plans to renovate and open it in the future), the gardens which cover an area of 20,000m2 are open and are very well maintained. Take a stroll along the 'path of palms' and admire the statues, ponds, fountains and the little sea rock grotto which is dedicated to the Virgen de la Almudena. Adjacent to the palace is the church, the bars and cafes of the village are dotted throughout the surrounding streets and the town hall and municipal outdoor swimming pool are a short walk away. Click to view the EuroTourGuide Positive Place that was filmed at the Palace and the Gardens during Covid.

The popular 18 hole Vistabella Golf Course and Lawn Green Bowls Club officially belongs to Jacarilla, although it is accessed via the Entre Naranjos urbanisation. Vistabella, as its name suggests offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding area. There is an abundance of bunkers and tricky greens and the course runs along undulating fairways with mature trees which add to the enjoyment and challenge. The clubhouse has great views from the terrace and is a nice place to enjoy that well deserved drink.

Bigastro is a very traditional village, with the church and town hall square being surround by a haphazard narrow one way street system. The El Molino municipal sports centre is located in the industrial zone and has an indoor 25m pool and tennis courts. A great place to visit for a picnic is the La Pedrera Natural Park, located uphill 2 km from the village centre it has stunning views and a barbecue area.
