Elche CF, zero points again

EuroTourGuide Coach Tours Match Report Barcelona v Elche CF, Grandada v Elche CF February 2021
Elche CF visited the Camp Nou known in English as the Nou Camp on Wednesday evening, a place where they have never won. In fact, we need to go all the way back to April 1978 for the last time the team scored at the imposing stadium of Barca.
Elche put in a more than decent performance for the first 45 minutes against the mighty Catalan team whose squad included Messi, Jordi Alba and Griezmann to name a few!! Escriba's men did themselves, their manager and their fans proud by shutting down the attacks, with Badia showing off his skills time and time again. The Franjiverdes were not without their opportunities, in fact Boye could have put them ahead within the first minutes of the game had his shot not gone high!
However, the second half was a completely different story. Elche CF didn't so much fall asleep as Barca woke up. Messi hammered home 2 goals in the 48th and the 68th minute. This was followed by a 3rd goal from Jordi Alba on the 73rd. All in all, it wasn't an unexpected loss of 3 points for the Franijverdes whom managed a respectable 7 shots compared to the 14 of Barca. The match ended with Messi swapping shirts with the awesome Badia, who had once again been the saviour of his team.
Then, on Sunday evening Elche CF took on Granada at the Los Cármenes Stadium, where we lacked a bit of luck. As Elche manager Escriba said, they should have drawn, had it not been for a small error in the 80th minuet which allowed Antonio Puertas to score the winner! The Franjiverdes unfortunately concede two goals to the one which birthday boy Lucas Boye scored in the 41st minute. Even the legend Nino, who was substituted on in the 81st minuet for Fidel could not make a difference. Although with this appearance, he became the 7th footballer in the history of Spanish club football to have played 800 games. The 3 points would have seen Elche CF catapulted to 16th place and out of the relegation zone, but that was not to be.
19th placed Elche CF will play 4th placed Sevilla at home on Saturday the 6th March, kicking off at 16:15.
As soon as spectators are allowed back into the stadiums, EuroTourGuide will once again be offering Coach Tours with Match Tickets to support Elche CF. Please sign up to receive your free newsletter on
