All Level Levante v Elche CF

EuroTourGuide Match Report Levante v Elche CF 21st November 2020
Elche CF kicked off their 2nd Derby game of the season on Saturday. They were away at Valencia based Levante UD. Elche CF were in 7th place with 12 points after 7 games, whilst Levante were one place off the relegation zone in 17th place with 7 points after 8 games. It was a must win game for Levante, but as always we were rooting for Elche!

Elche's 2pm kick off start was shaky to say the least. They were saved on several occasions by the secure hands of Edgar Badia, the goalie, whom the commentators compared to a superhero! He made one of his superhuman saves to a deflection in the bottom left hand corner just minutes after the opening whistle. From the corner, Levante's Gonzalo Melero, a product of Real Madrid's youth scheme, escaped his marker to head the ball home from very close range. Elche continued to struggle, not only giving the ball away way too often, but also failing to create any chances.

The start of the second half was less shaky. Elche CF pressed forward securing a free kick from a late Levante foot, only to waste it. Confidence grew and with it more attempts on goal. Oscar Gil came close to levelling the score with a shot from 18 yards, but it was newly acquired Tete Morente who finally took the honour. On the 64th minute Josema swung the ball in and Tete sprung in the air with his leg extended to knock the ball in at the near post. Straight after the equalizer Elche morphed into defensive mode and Levante snapped into attack tactics. Verdu, Elche's centre back made a magnificent header on the 70th minute which would have made it past Fernandez, the Levante keeper, had it be just a fraction closer to the near post. The pressure play continued and Levante were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty just before the start of the 4 minute injury time.

A fair result for the game, but an unsatisfactory one for both teams.

Elche CF will welcome Cadiz to the Martinez Valero on Saturday the 28th November for another 14:00 kick off.
